The Story
Coca Cola × Cinemark brought the magic of Now You See Me 3 to life through an immersive AR game that let fans step into the iconic diamond heist scene from the film. Players became the fifth Horseman, orchestrating illusions to distract vigilant guards while keeping a stolen diamond out of sight. The game challenged users to perform perfectly timed illusions, pass the diamond between characters, and survive 45 seconds of intense gameplay without getting caught.
As a key developer, I built the core game mechanics including the guard patrol system with dynamic gaze detection, the illusion power-up system with charging mechanics, character selection and passing interactions, timer-based scoring with point multipliers, win/lose conditions with replay functionality, and the tap-to-place AR foundation that grounded the heist stage in users' real-world environments.
This gamified AR experience was developed for Now You See Me 3 promotional campaign in 2025. Built with WebAR using 8th Wall, Babylon.JS, and TypeScript, my work included game mechanic development, patrol guard behavior with vision cone systems, illusion timing and charging mechanics, character interaction logic, scoring systems, AR surface detection, performance optimization, and prize flow integration.
The Concept
The gameplay centered on tension, strategy, and spectacle. Guard featured vision cones that tracked the diamond holder, with indicators shifting from blue to purple to red as suspicion grew. The illusion mechanic required charging by holding a button, with release timing determining effectiveness and points. Players could pass the diamond to nearby Horsemen when guards closed in. The 45-second timer forced split-second decisions between performing illusions for points or passing to safety. Successful evasion unlocked prizes through integrated registration. Visual feedback included particle effects for illusions, color-coded alerts, and victory animations, creating a high-stakes AR experience that transformed fans into master illusionists.
The Brief
Create an engaging AR game capturing the thrill of the diamond heist scene. Players needed to strategically perform illusions to distract guards searching for the stolen diamond. The game required intelligent guard with gaze detection that changed colors based on suspicion, an illusion charging system rewarding timing, smooth character passing mechanics, real-time scoring encouraging risk-taking, and seamless integration with registration and prize systems.
